There is strong demand for condominiums in the Boston area and it is far outstripping supply as many millennials and retiring baby boomers alike want to live in or near the city. This is particularly true in the downtown area, where competition for high-end condos is very strong and prices can easily be in the single or multiple millions, reaching over $1,400 per square foot.
There is a lot of condo developments going up throughout the the city but there seems to be no immediate end to the downtown condo boom.
But there is good news too. Condo prices across Boston can vary by a factor of 20 within just a few city blocks. If you are willing to invest into an up and coming area, you can find great bargains and may be able to get in on the ground-floor to a lot of growth. For example, you can find more reasonably priced condos near Fenway, Allston, Brighton, Roslindale and Sommerville. You can find great bargains in Lynn, East Boston, Hyde Park and Chelsea and a few other areas nearby.
