The Boston apartment market has been very dynamic with rents increasing steadily for the last years. This basically reflects the strong job market in the Boston area where many world-class organizations in science, medicine and education reside.
Although Boston is one of the most expensive markets in the US, there is some relief in site. Prices have been leveling off and there are some signs of a moderation in rents. Particularly at the upper end of the market there has been increased competition among landlords as many high-end apartment building are being constructed in the city and there are even some incentives being offered for renters.
Competition for apartments usually peaks with the end of summer where over 200,000 students return to the city for another school year.
Some renters are finding that lower rents area available outside of the center of the city following the MBTA routes such as the Red Line and Blue Line.
