The Town of Belmont is an affluent, residential suburb close to the city of Boston. Although noted for its large expansive mansions and manicured lawns on Belmont Hill, most residents live in more settled areas around the Hill. The town is essentially a family-oriented small suburb, where the pace of the city slows and where people come home to a quiet evening or weekend.
There are three commercial centers in the town and there are many public parks or publicly accessible areas such as Rock Meadow, Audubon Habitat and various town fields.
Schools: Belmont’s school system has four elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. It is known for its high level of accomplishment with a high average MCAS CPI of 91.7. Belmont High is noted for its college placement, strong athletics and academics. There are several private schools like Belmont Hill School a non-sectarian high school, grades 7-12 and Belmont Day School, a private, non-sectarian PK-8 school. There are also several smaller private schools.
Transportation: Belmont's public transportation system includes buses to nearby communities as well as Cambridge and Boston. It is also served with two stations by a commuter train on the Concord/Fitchburg line connecting it to Boston via the Porter Square station in Cambridge. Belmont is roughly sixteen minutes away from the rail line's terminus at North Station, Boston.

Belmont Town Hall located on the corner of Concord Avenue and Pleasant Street was originally built in 1881.
